A Room of One's Own

2022 December 9 to 11, The Script Road will take place at Macau Art Garden, where its two-year-project “A Room of One’s Own” will be launched. Based on the work of Virginia Woolf, the pioneering British woman writer of 20th century modernism and feminism, and celebrating her 140th birthday in 2022, “A Room of One’s Own” is a series of talk, workshops, music, poetry and dance performances exploring the theme of “Women Conditions”.

The Macau Literary Festival activities, led by writers, scholars and artists, draw on a variety of artistic mediums including literature, poetry, theatre, dance and music to engage audiences in a series of lectures, performances and workshops that will engage audiences and members of the public and target groups in future collective works. Through the platform of the Macau Literary Festival, the focus will be on the physical and psychological well-being of the community and the power of women, with a continued literary-based approach and the performing arts as a medium to reflect and build empathy from the artists’ works.

Introduction: A concert performance on the rooftop of the Art Garden, in which Hong Kong meditative musician Paul Yip, Macau poets M. Chow and Isaac Pereira, and local modern ballet dancer Tina Kan will carry out a joint creative venture crossing over the poetic words of Virginia Woolf, the poets’ recitals in their own words and the dancer’s choreography moving through the instrumental vibrations coming from the musician. The performance will be accompanied by shamanic drums, brass bowls, gongs, celestial drums, dinshaws and Indian organs, taking you on a deep spiritual journey.
